Paris,
France—Since his return to sculpture in 2003, Bret Reilly
marks his sixth solo exhibition with international residency and
a commentary on the imminent French smoking ban and its effect on
French citizens.
As a New Yorker, living in a smoke-free environment since 2003,
Reilly has adopted Paris as his home and studio to observe its citizens
and create a plaster interpretation of culture and change by melding
the Parisian lifestyle with the already adopted New York smoking
behaviors.
“This show is not about whether the smoking laws are right
or wrong, it’s about smoking as a behavior that both brings
people together and sets them apart, regardless of the confines
of law,” Reilly says.
